Classics Dealers

Your local gunshop may have classic rifles on the shelf but is unlikely to have a wide range. The new rules prevent you from receiving a firearm by post (except for Antiques under Section 58 of the Firearms Act) so you will have to deal with your local shop in any case. When you find a suitable gun, arrange with your local dealer to have him deal with the transfer from the supplier. You then do the transaction face to face with your local man. Be prepared to pay a handling fee. Alternatively make a trip to the dealer in person.

Antiques.  If the firearm in question is an antique under Section 58 of the Firearms Acts you can have it sent to you by post.  Once you have it, you advise the Firearms Licensing Office (FLO) that you wish to fire this antique you have acquired and you enter the details in the Firearms Acquired section of your FAC giving Section 58(2) as the authority for having the firearm.  If you decide that you no longer wish to shoot with the firearm you merely advise the FLO of this and the gun reverts to its wallhanger status.  If you are not sure if a gun is an antique consult the advice issued by the Home Office reproduced here and available from the Home Office Home Page www.homeoffice.gov.uk/pcrg/antfiar.htm
