Scottish Historical Rifle Long Range Championships

Blair Atholl 17 August 2008

The seventh long range championships was held at the Jubilee Range, Glen Tilt by courtesy of the West Atholl Rifle Club.  The day followed the usual formula of the morning at 500yards followed by 900yards in the afternoon.

Attendance was a little lower than last year but we were able to fit in two details at each range for nearly everybody.  The conditions, however, were much more difficult than in previous years.  The wind was mostly coming from behind and the right but changed during the squalls and gusts that continued all day to straight across from the right and some confusing swirls in between.  As a result scores were lower than last year and some shooters found difficulty in staying on the target.

Finally, consistent wind doping and good shooting held out and Vintage Class was taken by David Craven, closely followed by David Whyte.  Classic Class was taken by David Whyte with John McCrae only 3.V points behind.  Jim McCall took Veteran Class convincingly with David Squires in second place. Willie Johnstone took Historic Target Rifle and Steve Farquhar Open Class with a fine 98.7.
